Executive Summary: The Expert Meeting was held from 19 to 21 March 2001 at FAO headquarters. Twenty international experts from different regions, disciplines and policy backgrounds discussed documentation and measurement of the roles of agriculture in developing countries. The main objective of the meeting were (1) to have experts review the project?s draft Analytical Framework and country case studies profiles; and (2) suggest possible methods and tools for the documentation, measurement and valuation in developing countries of the various roles of agriculture The ROA draft framework and country case studies and five technical papers were presented for discussion. The meeting provided an important forum for experts to discuss the full range of environmental, social, food security, economic, and cultural issues linked to the different roles of agriculture in pursuit of sustainable agricultural and rural development (SARD) in developing countries.
