Excerpt
Excerpt: This report summarizes the results of the firs Expert Meeting on the Dcoumentation and Measurement of the Roles of Agriculture (ROA) in developing countries held in Rome between 19- 21 March 2001. Specifically, using as its reference the draft analytical framework (AFW) presented at the meeting, the summary reports on: a) those points of the AFW that were clearly endorsed by the meeting and those that were challenged; b) the additions, complements, precisions or modifications that the meeting recommended making to particular elements of the AFW; and c) points and issues that the meeting considered to be in need of further work and investigation, but on which it, itself, did not produce substantial proposals. The summary is intended to record the reactions of meeting participants to the AFW, which were expressed in speakers? presentations, comments made in discussions and the general debate. It does not present conclusions about the project?s future programme of work, which will be drawn up by the project team after it has selected and prioritized the recommendations expressed at the meeting, taking into account, inter alia, time and resource constraints. Although this summary largely follows the logical sequence of the meeting timetable, issues are regrouped on the basis of their substance and do not strictly follow the order of the sessions at which they were expressed.
