Excerpt: The U.S. Census Bureau is conducting the 2005 Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS) to update the information it has about the legal boundaries, names of all counties, governmental status, and types of municipalities in the United States that have changes effective on or before January 1, 2005 or any other changes to boundaries not reported in a prior BAS. The Census Bureau will use the boundary information you provide to tabulate data for various programs and surveys, such as the annual Population Estimates Program and the American Community Survey.
