The HIV/AIDS epidemic is the single most important challenge facing the global public health community. A comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS is needed to expand evidence-based prevention interventions and to ensure that the people in need receive effective care, treatment and support. Great progress has been made over the past few years in making antiretroviral therapy an affordable and realistic option for even the most resource-constrained countries. Ways to ensure that treatment and care effectively support prevention efforts are becoming increasingly clear. The challenge now is to translate these opportunities into action.
