YU Televentures is an Indian electronics brand, which is partly owned by Micromax Mobile an Indian consumer electronics company headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana, India.[1] YU has been founded on 18 December 2014,[2] which is a joint venture of Cyanogen Inc. and Micromax Informatics Ltd. Also YU holds official CyanogenOS rights in India.[3] It is said Rahul Sharma owns 99.9% in YU Televentures, and, other 0.1% stake held by two other Micromax founder Vikas Jain and Sumeet Arora.

The first mobile under this brand 'YU' running on Cyanogen OS named 'YUreka', however being a cheap mobile phone, it got a good sales response from customers. Recently, updates of CyanogenMod 12.1 were released. It was launched under the tagline 'YU Play God'. YU's Yureka 4G LTE powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC alongside 2GB DDR3 RAM.[4] It had a MSM8939 LTE Chipset and integrated Adreno 405 GPU @550Mhz. YUreka was launched with Cyanogen OS 12 based on Android Lollipop 5.0.2, which allows users to customize their phone. However, it has now been discontinued on the Amazon website.[5]

YU announced the YUreka Plus later on Q1 2015. The YUreka Plus features an improved 13MP Camera and a 1080p Full HD display. It runs on CyanogenMod 12.0 and is available on Amazon.


YU announced their new Phone "YUphoria" which has almost the same specs as his predecessor YUreka except Camera & Processor Clock. It comes with 2GB RAM 16GB ROM 5 inch screen with Gorilla Glass 3 And, it was launched on 12 May 2015[6] YU YUphoria with Android Lollipop 5.0.2 based Cyanogen OS 12 launched in India.[7]


Apart from launching the YU YUphoria handset on Tuesday, Micromax subsidiary YU Televentures also launched the YUFit fitness tracking band. The company also unveiled another health-centric accessory called the HealthYU.

Users will also be able to share their HealthYu readings with their doctor or family. The cassette is said to be small enough to fit in the user's pocket, and can provide several readings on a single charge.[8]


YUpix is a portable printer from YU.


jYUice is a powerbank from YU, with the capacity of 5000mAh and 10000mAh.

YUreka's debut sale was held on 13 January 2015 with 10000 units, and sold out in just 3 seconds. YUreka have total of 360000 units sale till 30 April 2015 in India.[9] Which is currently not available for sale it is replaced by YUreka Plus.


YUphoria's debut sale was held on 28 May 2015 with 20000 units. YU received over 500000 registrations, and all units were sold out within seconds.[10]

YUreka Plus

The YUreka Plus is a refresh of the YUreka with a better build quality, better display and a newer camera sensor. It was released exclusively on Amazon on 6th August 2015.


YUnique is an ultra budget 4G smartphone in India. It got sold out in its first flash sale held on 15th September of 2015 in just 9 seconds it is a best budget oriented smartphone.[11] and 21st September of 2015 exclusively via Snapdeal.[12]


According to Micromax CANVAS, "YU has adopted a new way of providing the after sale services i.e. they are offering door to door support (Onsite) which implies that the users would have to just contact the YU customer staff and a technical expert would visit them at their home to take up the device once the issue has been confirmed."[13] Customers may also choose to visit an “Authorized Service Location”.[14]

The company soon released Yunique with stock Android and two existing phones, Yureka Plus and Yuphoria with stock Android.[15][16] This made peoples believe that YU and Cyanogen are soon going to split, however, soon Cyanogen denied the rumors with their Facebook post and also said that YU's next smartphone- Yutopia is going to powered by Cyanogen OS, probably Cyanogen OS 12.1.[17]


In September 2015, YU founder Rahul Sharma introduced EDM producer Ci Jean as the brand ambassador of YU Televentures.[18]
