History

The traditional Miss Portugal which used to send representatives to Miss Universe.

Since 2003, Portugal has not participated at Miss Universe.

In 2011, Miss Universe was held in Brazil, Miss Portugal has been changed as Miss Universo Portugal and select the winner to compete at the pageant, the reigning Miss Universo Portugal 2011 was Laura Gonçalves from Lisbon, since 2012 the pageant did not held.

Different with Miss Mundo Portugal or Miss Republica Portuguesa which selected the winners for Miss World and Miss International. The reigning Miss Republica Portuguesa 2013 is Catarina Sikiniotis who will represent Portugal at Miss World 2014.

Nowadays, Miss Republica Portuguesa selected the official candidates for Miss World, Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Tourism Queen International, Miss Grand International and other minor pageants.

To complete international beauty pageants grand slam, Miss Earth Portugal official representatives are selected by Miss Queen Portugal beauty contest, which is held annually in Portugal and also select official candidates to Top Model Of The World, and other international beauty pageants.

In 2014, Miss Republica Portuguesa Organization has been successfully awarded as national franchise of Miss Universe in Portugal. As of 2014, the Portugal representative will be selecting by separate pageant called by Miss Universe Portugal pageant.

Representatives at Miss World

The 1st Runner-up title of local pageant represents her country at Miss World. On occasion, when the candidate does not qualify (due to age) for either contest, another girl is sent. Sometimes the winner also competed at the pageant. Since in 2011 the Miss República Portuguesa selected the official candidate for the Miss World, Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Tourism Queen International. Since that year the winner will be competing at Miss World pageant.
